Job Title: Financial Specialist Sr.

Arizona State University is seeking a highly skilled Financial Specialist Sr. to join our team in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering. As a key member of our Research Operations team, you will play a critical role in providing financial oversight of federal grants and contracts, as well as discretionary accounts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and prepare financial reports for various accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with ASU and sponsoring agency requirements.
  • Forecast accounts to avoid deficits and provide valuable insights for decision-making.
  • Approve financial and payroll transactions, ensuring expenses are allowable and compliant with ASU and sponsoring agency conditions.
  • Provide guidance and assistance in preparing administrative post-award documents.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner, utilizing effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, combined with three years of related experience, or seven years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in preparing detailed documents and account management.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative, manage workload effectively, and set priorities.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and influence without authority.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulations governing grant and contract management.
  • Skills in understanding generally accepted accounting principles, mathematical comprehension, and data analysis.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Proficiency in ASU systems, including Enterprise Research Administration (ERA), Workday, and Adaptive Planning.
Working Environment:

This position is located in an environmentally controlled office setting, requiring extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Occasional standing and walking are required. The ability to quickly change priorities and resolve conflicts is essential.
