Position Overview
Acts as the Chief Administrative Officer during the absence of the Hospital Administrative Team. This role is crucial for engaging with all departments to address challenges in the absence of management. Exemplifies exceptional and effective communication abilities.Key Responsibilities
- Conducts rounds across all units to support nursing staff and facilitate problem-solving by coaching and mentoring Charge Nurses and staff RNs. Gathers reports from Charge Nurses on each unit concerning staffing, patient incidents, complaints, and other relevant issues. Provides guidance to Charge Nurses to proactively address challenges.
- Collaborates with the Resource Staffing Department to maintain stable staffing levels throughout the facility.
- Partners with the Customer Service Department to address service-related concerns involving Nursing. Manages patient/family and physician complaints, resolving immediate issues and documenting incidents for appropriate follow-up.
- Coordinates with an Administrator on call to tackle customer complaints, facility issues, and disaster management. Manages bed allocation and diversion issues in collaboration with Nursing Leadership and Patient Placement Coordinators.
- Reviews all cases for Medical Examiner/Coroner as necessary. Ensures death certificates are complete and follows up as required. Addresses related matters such as organ donation and autopsies.
- Collaborates with Employee Health and Infection Control to enforce policies regarding patient and staff safety, including exposure protocols and screenings.
- Serves as Planning Chief and temporary Incident Commander during disasters, initiating the disaster alert system.
- Works with Security on various issues, including trespass notices and inclement weather. Collaborates with Plant Operations on facility-related matters.
- Assists Public Relations in addressing media inquiries regarding patient conditions and public records.
- Acts as a resource for Nursing Management on policies and procedures, collaborating with Administration and Risk Management to handle sensitive legal and clinical situations appropriately.
- Addresses urgent personnel issues in the absence of management, ensuring adherence to personnel policies. Documents incidents and actions taken for appropriate follow-up.
- General Expectations: Demonstrates outstanding communication skills. Serves as a role model for peers through performance and actions. Represents the department effectively.
Management Responsibility
This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 3 years of Nursing experience required; 5 years preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Current South Carolina R.N. License (Lawson Code NLRN)

Alternative Qualifications
A nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be accepted if the applicant agrees to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and complete the degree within four years.
