Position Overview
Acts as the Chief Administrative Officer during the absence of hospital leadership. This role is pivotal in liaising with various departments to address challenges in the absence of administrative or suitable management. Exhibits exceptional and effective communication abilities.Key Responsibilities
- Conducts rounds across all units to support nursing staff and assist in problem resolution by guiding and mentoring Charge Nurses and staff RNs. Gathers updates from Charge Nurses on each unit regarding staffing levels, patient incidents, complaints, and other relevant issues. Provides coaching to Charge Nurses to proactively address challenges.
- Collaborates with the Resource Staffing Department to maintain stable staffing levels throughout the facility.
- Engages with the Customer Service Department to address nursing-related customer service concerns. Manages patient and family complaints, resolving immediate issues and documenting incidents for appropriate follow-up.
- Partners with an Administrator on call to tackle issues related to customer feedback, facility matters, and disaster management. Coordinates bed management and diversion concerns with relevant leadership.
- Reviews cases for Medical Examiner/Coroner when necessary. Ensures completeness of death certificates and follows up as required. Addresses related matters such as organ donation and autopsies.
- Collaborates with Employee Health and Infection Control to support adherence to policies regarding patient and staff safety.
- Serves as Planning Chief and temporary Incident Commander during disaster situations, initiating the disaster alert system.
- Works with Security on various issues, including trespass notices and inclement weather. Coordinates with Plant Operations on facility-related emergencies.
- Assists Public Relations in addressing media inquiries regarding patient conditions and public records.
- Acts as a resource for Nursing Management concerning policies and procedures, collaborating with Administration and Risk Management on sensitive legal and clinical matters.
- Manages urgent personnel issues in the absence of management, ensuring adherence to personnel policies and documenting incidents for further review.
- General Expectations: Demonstrates outstanding communication skills and serves as a role model for peers.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
This position does not include management responsibilities and reports to a supervisor or director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience required.
- Preferred: 5 years of nursing experience.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
Current South Carolina R.N. License.

In Lieu of Requirements
A nursing diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing may be accepted if the applicant commits to enrolling in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year.
