Job Title: Associate Chief Medical Officer

The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) plays a pivotal role in providing medical oversight, expertise, and leadership for the clinical staff at the Stead Family Children's Hospital. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and innovative clinical care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operations: Improve access to inpatient beds through optimization of length of stay and timeliness of discharge. Lead improvements in triage from outside facilities and optimize transfer within the UI SFCH.
  • Lead Change: Foster a commitment to data-driven decision making to enhance clinical excellence in patient care. Strategically evaluate, plan, and facilitate necessary change to optimize patient flow and achieve excellence in patient outcomes.
  • Quality and Safety: Facilitate the analysis of quality performance and partner with the CQO to prioritize goals in quality and safety for UI SFCH. Actively support quality and safety improvement efforts and initiatives within the UI SFCH hospital.
  • Graduate Medical Education: Assist in the strategy of development of plans for education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Foster collaborative working relationships between subspecialties/affiliated teaching specialties.
  • Culture: Create a cultural expectation of team-based patient- and family-centered care and excellent team dynamics among all members of the healthcare team within UI SFCH.
  • Institutional Leadership: Serve as a member of the Chief Medical Officer's Leadership Executive Team. Serve as the designated physician leader for all regulatory visits involving the UI SFCH and as delegated within UI Health Care.

This is a 0.5 FTE position with the remaining 0.5 FTE as a clinical position in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. The ACMO will work collaboratively with the Pediatric DEO/SFCH Physician-in Chief, Pediatric Division Directors, and other UI Health Care Leaders to pursue continuous performance improvement.

The ideal candidate will be a board-certified/eligible physician (in pediatrics) with at least 7 years of clinical experience. An advanced degree in healthcare/business or equivalent degree or related experience in healthcare leadership is required. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven work experience in enhancing process and performance standards, and strong analytical abilities.
