Job Title: Education Legislative Advocate

Scion Nonprofit is seeking an experienced Education Legislative Advocate to join our team. As a key member of our government relations team, you will play a critical role in advancing the well-being and education of millions of California students.

About the Role:
  • Research and analyze current and proposed federal and state legislative and budget issues, including statues, regulations, and policies.
  • Develop recommendations, presentations, and proposals on advice and strategic planning for implementation.
  • Ensure Congress, legislators, and legislative committees understand our organization's positions on proposed legislation.
  • Manage the design and implementation of our legislative strategy.
  • Contribute to the development and communication of our organization's positions on issues, policies, and bills.
  • Lobby federal and state agencies regarding our organization's positions, including the US Department of Education and State Department of Education.
  • Advocate and represent our organization on state and national boards, advisory groups, and committees.
Requirements:
  • Deep expertise in K-12 school public education funding policy in California, including Prop 98 and LCFF.
  • 3+ years of experience in legislative research, analysis, evaluation, or related governmental relations/advocacy experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in representing/advocating for policy/position via multiple areas of communication, including writing reports and presentations, lobbying, attending meetings and public speaking, attending and testifying at hearings, etc.
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal communication skills to create, maintain, and utilize professional working relationships.
