Role Overview:

The Clinical R&D Engineer II is tasked with providing engineering expertise in the design and development of new medical device products, both invasive and non-invasive. Responsibilities include researching, developing, and designing test models, as well as evaluating mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes, and equipment. Additionally, you will conduct feasibility studies to confirm capability and functionality and develop new concepts from initial design to market introduction. The Clinical R&D Engineer II will also oversee support personnel and coordinate project activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Leverage multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to innovate and develop new products in the dynamic structural heart sector where Abbott excels. Understand user requirements and assist in establishing appropriate specifications to meet those needs. Conduct technical planning and performance evaluation studies. Formally and informally evaluate prototypes through structured and ad hoc testing to ensure they meet intended use requirements. Assess customer satisfaction and device performance through end-user testing, analysis, and studies. Provide clinical, usability, and system-level technical guidance and support to teams as necessary. Evaluate the system user interface through structured and ad hoc testing to ensure usability and safety. Contribute to the development of clinical system validation plans and assist in conducting those tests. Maintain comprehensive documentation throughout all phases of research and development. Investigate and assess existing technologies. Build and nurture a broad network of support to facilitate project completion. Mentor less experienced staff by providing guidance and direction. Participate in setting project goals and objectives, potentially leading projects. Influence management on technical or business solutions. Organize and plan non-routine tasks with appropriate approvals. Initiate or maintain work schedules and establish work priorities. Apply innovative and practical methods to resolve problems effectively.

Qualifications:

Required (Must be evident on your resume)

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. A Master's Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or equivalent is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of engineering experience, primarily in R&D or clinical engineering. Experience in the medical device industry. Familiarity with statistical techniques and experimental design. Knowledge of human factors engineering. Understanding of animal models and study design. Experience in a Quality System environment. Basic clinical knowledge of cardiac function. Proven ability to integrate information from various disciplines, including Clinical Medicine, Engineering, Marketing, and Regulatory Affairs. Previous experience in a complex, geographically diverse business environment.

The base pay for this position is $57,300.00 – $114,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
