About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at Helio Health. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in recovery from substance use, mental health disorders, and other behavioral healthcare issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized recovery plans that cater to their unique needs and goals.
  • Link patients to community-based social and support services, promoting a seamless transition to independent living.
  • Teach coping skills and strategies to individuals and their families, empowering them to manage challenges and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Support the application process for benefits, ensuring individuals have access to necessary resources.
  • Provide non-clinical crisis support after periods of hospitalization or incarceration, offering a safe and supportive environment for individuals to process their experiences.
  • Accompany individuals to court appearances and medical appointments, providing emotional support and advocacy.
  • Engage individuals with formal recovery support services, promoting a sense of community and connection.
  • Educate individuals and families on various modes of recovery, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalency required.
  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) Certification required within six (6) months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • One year of Health or Human Service experience preferred.
  • An individual does not need to be in recovery themselves but must be able to confer empathy through lived experiences such as family and/or close friends.
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver's License.
