GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Supervisor of Protection Services, the Art Museum Security Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of visitors and the protection of valuable collections. This position is integral to maintaining a secure environment while delivering exceptional service to all museum guests and staff. The Specialist is responsible for enforcing established safety protocols and policies designed to safeguard the museum's assets and its personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct regular patrols of the museum's collections, facilities, and grounds to deter and prevent theft, vandalism, and potential hazards.
  • Respond promptly to mitigate any risks or threats in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Screen individuals and packages at entry and exit points to prevent the introduction of prohibited items.
  • Monitor the behavior of staff and visitors to identify and address any suspicious activities or violations of museum regulations.
  • Document and report any unusual incidents in writing, ensuring timely communication of findings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED is required; some college coursework is preferred. Previous experience in the security sector is advantageous.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across various departments and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong public speaking skills, capable of conveying information clearly and engagingly.
  • Proficient in de-escalating challenging situations with visitors in a calm and professional manner.
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities based on operational needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Capability to maintain a stationary position and/or move throughout the museum for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with security technologies and systems is highly preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within six months of hire.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is essential.
  • Understanding of security principles and best practices.
  • Reliable transportation for all shifts and assignments.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality in all professional interactions.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to foster positive teamwork through professional and courteous interactions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements of this position include the ability to remain stationary for extended periods and to walk or stand throughout the shift as needed. Effective communication is essential, utilizing various methods including in-person and radio communication.
