Role Summary:

The Senior Automation & Controls Engineer will possess a robust background in design and automation controls, particularly with Rockwell Allen-Bradley systems. This senior-level position is integral to our electrical control and design engineering department, focusing on custom machinery and equipment. The role is primarily in-house, with minimal travel required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of electrical control systems for bespoke machinery, primarily utilizing Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMI interfaces.
  • Oversee the design process from specifications to configurations, including the selection of appropriate enclosures, transformers, fuses, and other essential components.
  • Initiate the creation of innovative control systems, enhancing product offerings and addressing client needs.
  • Generate detailed electrical schematics, process engineering change orders (ECOs), and accurate bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Develop custom PLC/HMI software, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of electrical performance and safety.
  • Mentor junior electrical engineers and collaborate with external contractors and vendors to achieve project goals.
  • Provide technical oversight during fabrication and construction phases to address any emerging issues.
  • Conduct on-floor equipment tests and install/test PLC/HMI software, creating comprehensive support documentation, including operator and maintenance manuals.
  • Occasional travel to client sites may be necessary to ensure effective system integration and client satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET).
  • 3-4 years of experience in designing and testing custom automation controls, with a focus on Rockwell Allen-Bradley equipment.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software, with a solid understanding of wiring design, electrical circuits, and associated control elements.
  • Familiarity with industrial standards (CSA, CE, UL, ANSI, NEC, ASME, etc.) and a proven track record of managing projects successfully within time and budget constraints.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, capable of clearly presenting operational concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Desirable: Experience with robotics and related automation technologies.
