Role Summary:
The Senior Automation & Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in our electrical control and design engineering department. This senior-level position will focus on the design and automation of custom machinery, primarily utilizing Rockwell Allen-Bradley systems. The role is based in-house, with minimal travel requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of electrical control systems for custom machinery, focusing on Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMI interfaces.
- Oversee the design process from initial specifications to final configuration, including the selection of appropriate components such as enclosures and transformers.
- Initiate the creation of innovative control systems that enhance product offerings and fulfill customer needs.
- Generate detailed electrical schematics, process engineering change orders (ECOs), and accurate bills of materials (BOMs).
- Develop custom PLC/HMI software, ensuring compliance with high standards of electrical performance and safety.
- Mentor junior electrical engineers and collaborate with external contractors to achieve project goals.
- Provide technical guidance during fabrication and construction phases to address any issues that arise.
- Conduct on-site equipment tests and install/test PLC/HMI software, producing comprehensive support documentation, including operator and maintenance manuals.
- Occasional travel to client locations may be necessary to ensure effective system integration and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET).
- 3-4 years of experience in designing and testing custom automation controls, particularly with Rockwell Allen-Bradley equipment.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software, with a solid grasp of wiring design and electrical circuits.
- Familiarity with industrial standards (CSA, CE, UL, ANSI, NEC, ASME, etc.) and a proven track record of managing projects effectively within time and budget constraints.
- Strong technical communication skills, capable of clearly presenting operational concepts to stakeholders.
- Desirable: Experience with robotics and related automation technologies.
