Physician - Deputy Chief of Staff

The Deputy Chief of Staff - Physician provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership to help ensure achievement of the Health Care System's clinical, research, and educational goals. This role is responsible for serving as the lead physician in the medical center's Inpatient Flow Improvement, Systems Redesign, and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety initiatives. The incumbent will assist in coordination of the Health Professions Education Programs as required.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the work of the services under their direct supervision and collaborate with those services reporting to the Nurse Executive, Deputy Director, and Associate Director to implement key VA Central Office, Network, and Medical Center organizational strategies to fulfill the Clinical, Educational, and Research Missions of the VHA.
- Provide direct patient care in the specialty in which they are credentialed and privileged on a rotational basis.
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives and utilization management.
- Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team and service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Health Care System strategic and business plan.
- Develop an interdisciplinary team of innovative, highly motivated individuals who are continuously striving for excellence in patient care and customer service as the foundation of the Facility's mission.
- Responsible for assuring appropriate action in such matters as promotions, selections, rewards and recognition, training, and problem resolution.
- Represent VASTLHCS in VISN wide clinical service coordination.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
