POSITION TITLE: Assistant Manager for Tasting Room Operations
REPORTS TO: Tasting Room & DTC Sales Manager, Winemaker, Food & Beverage Manager, District Management
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Non-Exempt
The following outlines the general responsibilities and expectations for the role of Assistant Manager in the Tasting Room. This is not an exhaustive list of all tasks and duties associated with this position, and employees may be required to perform additional tasks as necessary.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager for Tasting Room Operations plays a vital role in supporting the Tasting Room Manager with the daily management of the tasting room, wine club activities, and customer interactions both in person and through various communication channels. The Assistant Manager will oversee the Tasting Room staff, manage administrative tasks assigned by the manager (such as submitting reports, updating menus, and tracking drink sales), and address any personnel or customer service issues that may arise. In the absence of the Tasting Room Manager, the Assistant Manager will assume the role of Manager on Duty. Compliance with all company policies and procedures is essential, and all employees are expected to maintain a safe working environment and stay informed about company events and products.
Key Responsibilities:
Efficiently manage the daily operations of the Tasting Room Address inquiries related to Edgefield Winery and the Wine Club in the absence of the Tasting Room Manager Assist in the recruitment and retention of wine club members through engagement and exceptional customer service Support the execution of on-site Wine Club events and may assist at events at other locations Collaborate with Tasting Room staff to drive sales and assist in staff training, labor monitoring, and performance evaluations Conduct tours of the winery Perform additional duties as assignedJob Requirements:
Previous experience in a winery or tasting room is preferred Knowledge of wine is essential; experience with winery production or sales software is a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook is required Strong organizational and prioritization skills are essential Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team Capability to work efficiently under time constraints Experience in supervising staff in a constructive manner Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays Inventory management experience is preferred Excellent communication skills are a must Ability to lead small wine tasting eventsEssential Functions:
Deliver an outstanding experience for customers in the winery while managing daily operations effectively Safely perform heavy lifting, with assistance when necessary, and manage frequent lifting of up to 60 lbs. Ability to remain on feet for extended periods, including frequent stair climbing Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Engage in repetitive movements such as bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, and stooping Frequent use of hands for tasks including fine manipulation on a computer keyboard Communicate effectively with both staff and customers Work safely with cleaning agents and other chemicals Operate heavy equipment as needed Manage numerical data and orders accurately Foster positive interactions with coworkers and customersA positive attitude and a genuine passion for wine are essential for this role.
