Overview:
The City of Greenville Fire/Rescue is in search of a qualified individual to fulfill the role of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This role is crucial in delivering both basic and advanced life support services in emergency situations.

Join a dedicated team of 170 professionals who are committed to addressing the varied needs of our community through exceptional emergency response, outreach, and preventive initiatives.

Our department operates from 7 strategically located stations throughout the city and is recognized by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

EMTs have the option to work a standard 40-hour schedule from Monday to Friday, with occasional duties during community events or emergencies, or a shift schedule of 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off.

*Candidates interested in the shift schedule must successfully complete a physical agility assessment.

Shift EMTs will be required to attend a fire academy sponsored by the department approximately six months post-hire.

Initially, you will work a 40-hour schedule and transition to a shift schedule upon full certification in all necessary areas.

Your salary will align with the City's established pay structure.

Salary Range:
$55,974.40 based on qualifications.
Consideration for qualified lateral EMTs.

FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt
This position is continuously open and may close at any time.

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead clinician at emergency scenes;
- Supervise ambulance operations during emergency calls and patient transport;
- Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to interpret cardiac rhythms;
- Manage and inventory paramedic-level medications;
- Execute basic and advanced life support protocols;
- Conduct patient interviews to assess emergencies;
- Evaluate patients for injuries and illnesses;
- Lift and transport equipment, stretchers, and patients;
- Record vital signs and input data into electronic systems;
- Communicate with hospital staff as necessary;
- Document all patient care according to departmental standards;
- Engage in educational and accident prevention activities;
- Provide safety and preventive care information to community organizations;
- Maintain inventory of supplies and restock post-response;
- Occasionally supervise assistants, interns, or volunteers;
- Ensure medical and vehicle equipment is operational and clean;
- Maintain cleanliness of the station through various tasks;
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

Certifications:

  • Must be a North Carolina state certified EMT-Paramedic or eligible for reciprocity.

Preferred Training:

  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.

Additional Requirements:

All applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen with proof of identity and work authorization;
  • Exhibit good moral character;
  • Demonstrate the mental, physical, and medical capability to perform EMT duties;
  • Show strong motivation and interest in emergency services.

Successful candidates will be required to attend a department-sponsored fire academy at a later date to achieve full fire service certification if they opt for a shift schedule.
