About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to join our team at Holiday Vacations. As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for negotiating and contracting hotels, rail, and cruise line inventory across our entire product line.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate preferred rates and contract terms with hotels, rail providers, cruise lines, and other large volume or valued relationships.
  • Create and maintain key executive level relationships with hotels, rail providers, cruise lines, and DMOs, and represent HV with travel trade suppliers and partners worldwide.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to ensure HV is afforded upfront the most competitive pricing and other value-added considerations such as included amenities, room category upgrades, free Wi-Fi, cocktail parties, and other enhancements where available.
  • Develop and use history and trend purchasing data that compares increases in component level costs to identify opportunities for negotiated savings or value enhancements.
  • Identify opportunistic and/or distressed inventory that HV can package around to create tours that are compelling from a value and price consideration.
  • Ensure that net rates have a drop provision or other considerations to emulate better or more compelling consumer-facing offers in market closer to departure.
  • Provide timely feedback to partners from guest survey data, taking initiative to correct performance and seek reimbursement should the need arise.
  • Participate and be an active contributor in inventory meetings that optimize availability with demand, and solicit supplier participation in value-added offers to generate customer interest.
  • Develop and maintain metrics, analytical reports, key performance indicators, and units of measurements to optimize awareness and efficiency on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Continually look for ways to use our technology tools to enhance and/or automate the tour development business process, from conception through execution.
  • Together with Destination Managers, develop relevant tourist board and DMO relationships to identify cooperative marketing contribution opportunities.
  • Seek to understand emerging trends, opportunities, and threats, and keep abreast of current news and security issues.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent expertise plus five years experience in hospitality, tourism, sales, marketing, business administration, or related field.
  • Preference provided for candidates with key hotel, rail, cruise, and other relationships, and five or more years management level knowledge with similar volume product and purchasing responsibility.
  • Excellent and proven negotiating, networking, and analytical skills with a broad understanding of finance (ROI) and planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Equally strong communicator both verbal and written, with the ability to mentor, train, and direct actions of others to gain outcomes that support business objectives.
  • Requires advanced Excel skills using pivot tables, v lookups, macros, plus solid experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Must possess innovative and creative thinking skills to think out of the box with regards to complex solutions, especially with respect to industry and competitive trends.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work with a multitude of departments and staff members of all levels, including with senior executives internally and with parent company.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to problem solve, and work under pressure of immediate deadlines.
  • Demonstrated natural curiosity to understand business performance and the why behind results.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally as needed for site inspections, destination familiarization, conferences, etc., and possess significant destination knowledge, in addition to experience traveling by the means of conveyance offered in our tour packages such as motor coach, cruise, trains, and aircraft.
Working Conditions

Work is preferred to be performed in the corporate headquarters in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Hours of work will generally be during the regular business week. There will be variation in hours due to the time of year and department demands. Travel will be required, sometimes internationally.
