Patient Care Specialist

Job Summary:
To provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas and serve as a leader/ mentor for the assigned unit(s).
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects, reports, and documents data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior.
- Provides for patients' personal hygiene, including bathing, oral suctioning, superficial wound care, and caring for incontinent patients and those with urinary catheters.
- Assists with feeding, ambulation, positioning, and turning patients, as well as caring for those with altered mobility.
- Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, and prepares patients for examinations/procedures or assists with other patient treatments.
- Maintains patient safety related to age and condition, and assists with patient restraints and safety precautions.
- Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment, and performs and/or assists others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
- Assists with patient requests for other hospital services, and participates in one leadership activity per fiscal year.
Requirements:
- High school or equivalent, one year of hospital experience, and completion of one of the following technical programs: Nurse Assistant, Medical Corpsman, EMT, or enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing.
- Obtained and provided documentation of completion of 2 or more of the following: Emergency Dispatch, POCT test site manager, Cross-training to HUC duties, Patient Care Assistant trainer, Unit Audits, Cast placement, High-Level Disinfection, and Burn tub room duties.
- Licenses, registrations, or certifications: BLS.
Work Schedule: Full-time.
