Job Description:

The Procurement Specialist position at NY CREATES will be responsible for ensuring compliant procurement and contracting of goods and services that support the organization's research, innovation, and commercialization missions.

This role will be a key member of the Procurement Office, working closely with the Research Foundation and NY CREATES legal teams to negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliant Procurement: Determine vendor selection, analyze business terms, negotiate contracting terms and conditions, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliant procurement practices.
  • Finance Support: Process blanket purchase order payments, review invoices, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Outreach and Education: Maintain open communication with internal parties, educate stakeholders on procurement processes, and provide guidance on compliant methods.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (direct experience may replace educational requirement).
  • 1-2 years of purchasing and/or finance experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle business software in a Sponsored Funds environment.
  • 1-2 years of procurement experience conducting request for proposals.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • 1-2 years of practical experience in contract negotiations.
  • Practical working experience with Research Foundation, NYS, and/or Federal procurement policy, including MWBE engagements and reporting.
