Job Summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled and motivated Generator Technician to join our team servicing and repairing commercial generators on cell phone towers in your region. This is a fast-paced and challenging job that is best suited for self-directed, highly motivated individuals, willing to travel and looking to learn and grow in the Telecom industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair commercial generators, diagnosing and troubleshooting problems, and installing and replacing components or entire systems.
  • Perform additional maintenance or upgrades on out-of-season equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular performance checks and maintenance to ensure proper readiness and efficiency.
  • Read and follow blueprints or design specifications to install or repair electrical systems.
  • Install electrical wiring and controls, and test for proper operation.
  • Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, and other components.
  • Connect electrical wiring and ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Use care to conserve, recover, and recycle oil or fuel filters and other fluids.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair with other Generator Service Technicians.
  • Respond promptly to Power/Generator alarms and be available for on-call duty as needed.
  • Operate a computer or similar device to access required systems and equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions based on technical expertise.
  • Perform work with awareness of potential hazards, including falls, electric shock, and traffic, and use safety equipment and practices.
  • Comply with all specifications, industry standards, safety rules, and company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance is preferred, and a minimum of one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair, including electronic, mechanical, and electrical components, and familiarity with solar panels and computer systems.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and stand for long periods of time, and have unimpaired hearing and ability to communicate orally and via telephone.
  • Willingness to drive long distances, work varied hours, including evenings and nights, and be available for overtime, emergency call-outs, and weekends and holidays as required.
