About the Role

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our Fleet Sustainment team in Williamsburg, VA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting military tactical vehicles and equipment by performing daily trip tickets, managing vehicle check-ins and check-outs, and conducting routine Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) inspections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interface with customers and manage subcontractors
  • Provide work direction to others and lead teams as needed
  • Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks
  • Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages and test documents
  • Schedule and report to customers and senior management
  • Perform quality inspections on finished products
  • Conduct Periodic Maintenance in accordance with standard Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
  • Evaluate and recommend corrective actions for equipment that fail or exceed PMS
  • Manage daily upkeep of the facility and CESE support equipment
  • Manage Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) and Hazardous Materials (HazMat) for proper use and storage
  • Maintain maintenance records for all equipment and track CESE collateral equipment
Requirements
  • High School education or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience
  • Valid Class A CDL License
  • Experience working on diesel equipment
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Position of Public Trust Security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Military (Army or Navy) experience completing vehicle maintenance
  • Technical/professional certification
  • Prior service as Construction Mechanic (CM), Equipment Operator (EO), Heavy Wheeled Mechanic, Certified ASE Mechanic, or Certified Diesel Mechanic
Physical Requirements

The selected candidate must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes, with a minimum weight requirement of 30 lbs. Additionally, the candidate must be able to work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
