Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical/Surgical team as a Charge Nurse. As a Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring nursing and support staff during assigned shifts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor nursing and support staff during assigned shifts
  • Determine staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity, and work/patient flow
  • Provide direct patient care as needed
  • Float between staff to assist with problem-solving
  • May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes
  • Respond to complaints about patient care and related services, and manage through established channels
  • Perform role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers
  • Ensure staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care
  • Integrate evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols
  • Create and foster an environment that encourages professional growth

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing
  • Previous experience in acute care hospital setting preferred
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care provided on assigned units
