Job Overview

This role is essential for the oversight and direct engagement of participants within the residential program. The position encompasses a range of responsibilities associated with the effective operation of the program, including meal management, facility upkeep, and the assurance of a secure and healthy atmosphere.

This is an entry-level position within the Youth Development Specialist series, thus it will involve close supervision and guidance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises and interacts with residents, participating in all program activities.
  • Conducts intake assessments and manages related documentation.
  • Handles incoming calls, provides information, crisis intervention, and maintains written records.
  • Assists in planning and leading recreational activities.
  • Facilitates transportation for clients to various community venues as needed.
  • Attends all required agency and staff meetings.
  • Monitors chore assignments and completion, as well as overall resident behavior and attitude for daily evaluations.
  • Ensures the shelter remains orderly and clean, reporting maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Oversees the self-administration of medications by clients and accurately documents in shelter records.
  • Confirms medication upon intake and during each shift.
  • Consistently applies the program's Behavior Motivation system.
  • Maintains accurate client demographic records.
  • Documents daily interactions with clients and case management activities.
  • Prepares and serves meals in the absence of the cook, supervising cleanup as necessary.
  • Organizes and coordinates activities and events for youth.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Two years of general work experience, including at least one year in a direct contact role with at-risk youth, or equivalent volunteer experience. An Associate's degree in behavioral science or a related field may substitute for two years of general work experience.
  • Must show awareness, acceptance, and a willingness to work with the LGBTQ community.
  • Proficient in computer skills and technology.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated decision-making abilities with a focus on youth safety and security.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and follow supervisory directions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to build appropriate relationships and positively influence teens in alignment with agency culture.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to learn and apply behavior management techniques.
  • Motivated to resolve conflicts involving parents and clients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Background must comply with the Department of Juvenile Justice requirements.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and current automobile insurance are required.
  • Must successfully pass a competency exam related to positive youth development and other job-related elements by the end of the probationary period.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 10-15 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers.
  • Ability to hear and respond promptly to sounds.
  • Good close, distance, and peripheral vision.
  • Frequent driving required.
