Job Title: Correctional Youth Security Officer II

Job Summary:

The Correctional Youth Security Officer II is responsible for providing supervision and support to youth in a secure facility. This role involves enforcing rules and procedures, documenting incidents, and providing guidance to staff. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth in a correctional or trauma-informed setting and possess strong leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce established rules and procedures to control the movement and behavior of youth
  • Document incidents and provide input for quarterly, mid-year, and closeout evaluations
  • Ensure staff compliance with facility and DYS policies, procedures, and operational practices
  • Provide information and instruction in crisis intervention counseling
  • Conduct and document safety, fire, and health inspections
  • Review logs, shift reports, daily observations, rosters, and court paperwork for quality documentation
  • Ensure all room checks, medication administration, recreation, room restrictions, and discipline programs are maintained as required
  • Assist with timekeeping coordination and KRONOS editing
  • Facilitate team meetings in collaboration with CYSO III
  • Ensure that youth grievance policy and procedure are followed
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time professional corrections-related experience working in a correctional or trauma-informed facility
  • Valid US Driver's License
  • No felony convictions and no violent history
  • Ability to work shifts (24 hour/7 day a week facility)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Admissions and Control training
  • Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained youth within a secure facility
  • Self-motivated and positive role model
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Experience in program and/or project development
  • Trainer certification in staff development
  • Supervisory/management experience
  • Proven leadership and decision-making skills
  • Microsoft Office Programs
  • College degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, physical education/recreational studies, or closely related field
