FLSA Classification: Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE:

Five days a week; 37.5 hours per week; attendance at meetings as necessary; potential travel to various campuses; evening or weekend classes; alternative class delivery methods (e.g., online, hybrid, cohort, accelerated); no guarantee of summer teaching assignments.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

To instruct and develop courses in COMMUNICATION STUDIES while advancing the objectives of the program, department, college, and community college system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

65% A. TEACHING: Design and deliver COMMUNICATION STUDIES courses to a diverse student body utilizing both traditional and alternative instructional formats (hybrid, online, cohort, accelerated). Create course syllabi, instructional materials, assess student performance, and maintain academic records.

20% B. SERVICE/OUTREACH: Engage in program and curriculum development and evaluation, student advising, departmental meetings, and participation in college committees. Perform related responsibilities as assigned.

15% C. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Engage in ongoing professional growth to enhance teaching effectiveness, assessment of student learning, and classroom methodologies.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Additional tasks may include the operation of standard office equipment such as computers and copiers.

JOB STANDARDS:

A. Master’s Degree in Speech Communication or Communication Studies from an accredited institution.

B. At least one year of relevant teaching experience at the postsecondary level.

C. Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:

A. Experience in teaching public speaking.

B. Familiarity with various teaching modalities, including online and traditional classroom settings preferred.

C. Experience in a community college environment preferred.

D. Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

E. Commitment to the College's mission and values.

JOB LOCATION:

Candidates should be prepared to teach at any of the college's campuses or online as required. Travel between locations may be necessary.

EQUIPMENT:

Proficiency in using telephones, computers, projectors, fax machines, and other standard office equipment is required. Familiarity with computer communication systems, learning management systems, and visual aid production is essential.
