Position Overview
The University of Tennessee is seeking a dedicated research faculty member to join the Development and Advancement of Radiopharmaceutical Therapies (DART) Convergent Research Initiative (CRI). This role will be primarily based at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with collaborative opportunities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the DART team, consisting of approximately 20 professionals focused on the innovation of alpha-emitting radionuclides aimed at targeting tumor cells. The role will significantly contribute to the CRI's objectives, encompassing the development and application of radioisotopes across various disciplines, particularly in radiopharmaceutical development and preclinical translational research. Candidates with a proven track record in these areas and a commitment to fostering collaborative research and high-quality education for undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee small animal PET/CT imaging and related animal studies.
- Design and lead research initiatives in the field of radioisotopes.
- Establish and maintain strong collaborations with the DART team and associated researchers.
- Prepare and submit proposals for external funding opportunities.
- Present research findings at conferences and institutional meetings.
- Guide and mentor graduate students in their research endeavors.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Proven experience in small animal PET/CT imaging, including image processing and analysis.
- Capability to mentor graduate students in preclinical animal models and PET/CT imaging techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of researchers.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a collaborative research environment.
- Eligibility for site-access at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Documented success in multiple areas of radioisotope research.
- A clear trajectory towards independent research, with opportunities for collaboration with senior investigators.
- Demonstrated dedication to student education and mentorship.
Additional Information
- This is a 12-month, non-tenure track position.
- The appointment will be through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
- The position will commence with a three-year contract, offering full salary support for the first year, with a gradual decrease in funding thereafter, contingent upon securing external funding.
- The successful candidate is expected to recruit multiple graduate students within the initial years.
- Continuation in this role will depend on the success in attracting multi-year funding.
- A competitive startup package will be provided, including support for PhD students and necessary equipment budgets.
