Job Title: IT Systems Engineer I

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Systems Engineer I to join our team at National Guard Employment Network. As a key member of our IT department, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our IT systems and infrastructure.

Job Summary:

The IT Systems Engineer I position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems and infrastructure. This includes working with business partners and vendors to gather information, assisting with writing system specifications, and delivering practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that satisfy business needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in discussions with business partners and vendors to gather information and provide technical expertise.
  • Assist with writing system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans.
  • Deliver practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that satisfy business needs, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Work closely with others to assist development of future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules.
  • Provide input into presentations to Engineering and Architecture Review Boards.
  • Understand the current technologies and service offerings within the industry.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Computer Networking, or related field.
  • 4 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or related field.
  • Experience with system administration, drafting technical documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and apply skillset beyond the day-to-day operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technical resources and collaborate to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information in non-technical terminology (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork skills with self-motivation in a rapidly evolving environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as NERC-CIP, FERC, AZ900.
  • Deeper understanding of programming languages, and an ability to solve engineering problems of increasing difficulty.
  • Shows initiative beyond pure implementation.
  • Experience building highly scalable applications.
  • Experience participating in operational readiness activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and apply skillset beyond the day-to-day operations.
  • Experience developing and implementing new technologies or platforms.
  • Proficient understanding project management principles & framework.
  • Experience with Unix system administration - at least one of: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (versions 7, 8, 9), Oracle Enterprise Linux (versions 7, 8, 9), Solaris (versions 10 and 11).
  • Experience with script/programs in at least one of these languages: Bourne shell, Perl, Python, Java.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Knowledge of Oracle database.
  • Experience working within a team and taking responsibility to see initiatives through to completion.
  • Aspirations to become an subject matter expert on a technical team.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $84,000-$126,000.
  • Annual bonus and incentive pay up to 10%.
