Patient Navigator-LVN Cancer

The Patient Navigator-Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)-Cancer Clinic provides direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced outpatient cancer clinic and infusion center. This role works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Doctor (MD) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to ensure developmentally appropriate and age-specific care for patients eighteen years of age or older with suspected or confirmed malignancies or hematologic disorder(s). The LVN performs designated procedures and treatments within their scope of practice and in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, techniques, and guidelines.
Responsibilities:- Provides direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced outpatient cancer clinic and infusion center.
- Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Doctor (MD) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to ensure developmentally appropriate and age-specific care.
- Performs designated procedures and treatments within their scope of practice and in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, techniques, and guidelines.
- Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of complications and/or allergic reactions immediately to the RN, MD or NP.
- Exhibits mission-focused thinking and understands the sensitivity of cancer diagnosis and expresses kindness when communicating with patients facing the unknown of a serious critical illness.
- Orients patients to the clinic routine and prepares patients for examination.
- Assists MD or NP with examination and procedures as requested.
- Ensures insurance authorizations, tests results, appropriate coding, and other required information is available for the provider for review.
- Follows-up on designated case management and navigation activities as requested by the RN, MD or NP.
- Graduate of a school of vocational nursing required.
- Minimum six months experience as an LVN or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant (MA) in a physician back-office setting required.
- Minimum one year clinical experience in oncology or hematology nursing or infusion center preferred.
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of oncology/hematology disease process and treatments.
- Able to read, write legibly and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality.
- Use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, electronic event reporting program, established organization electronic medical record.
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment utilized for position.
- Perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
- Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
- California Intravenous (IV) Therapy certification and Blood Withdrawal certification preferred upon hire and required within 90 days of hire.
