Job Summary:

The Patient Navigator-Cancer coordinates access of patients through the healthcare system from diagnosis or point of referral. Completes authorization and coordinates financial clearance. Collects needed patient information for appointments, treatments, procedures, and surgeries including diagnostic procedures, pathology reports, operative notes, radiation therapy and chemotherapy information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates access of patients through the healthcare system from diagnosis or point of referral
  • Completes authorization and coordinates financial clearance
  • Collects needed patient information for appointments, treatments, procedures, and surgeries
  • Functions as a liaison between patients, families, outpatient oncology clinics, primary care physicians, and other support services
  • Provides patient service excellence through timely, accurate, caring and supportive communications with the patient through all aspects of care
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum one year of experience in a medical office setting required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Knowledge of all medical insurances and how they are used in a hospital/clinical based facility required
  • Full knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes and how they are used in HMO authorizations required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Able to type 50 wpm
  • Enter/edit data in computer
  • Proficient at keyboarding using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Able to use a variety of office equipment and tools
Work Environment:

Able to work independently with minimal supervision
