Laboratory Operations Supervisor


Zeno is in search of a Laboratory Operations Supervisor at our Seattle, WA facility to guarantee safe operations and adherence to all local and state regulations.


  • Oversee the procurement, receipt, and management of consumable and chemical inventories.
  • Develop and oversee various Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) functions, including industrial hygiene, construction safety, environmental compliance, ergonomics, electrical safety, and equipment safety.
  • Support management of change processes for internal procedures and production activities.
  • Assist with fieldwork, engaging in pre-job task planning and verification of controls and safeguards prior to commencing work.
  • Lead incident investigations with a focus on learning, ensuring that preventative measures address root causes.
  • Participate in Safety Walkdowns, inspections, corrective actions, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), procedure development and compliance, signage (HazCom), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safe work permits.
  • Design and maintain safety training programs that meet WA/Seattle requirements, including the chemical hygiene plan and hazardous waste management.
  • Create New Employee Safety Checklists, train new hires on laboratory protocols, and mentor staff on best practices for environmental, health, and safety behaviors.
  • Manage or assist in the oversight of contractors for the enhancement of Zeno facilities.
  • Act as the primary liaison with IT, Building Maintenance, and Building Construction teams.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with a preference for technical disciplines.
  • 5+ years of experience in a health and safety role, ideally within manufacturing, nuclear, biotech, chemical operations, or similar fields, with a preference for clean energy experience.
  • Experience interfacing with local, state, or federal regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA inspectors, environmental regulators, local authorities).
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing technical health and safety programs, emphasizing worker involvement, management support, and program evaluation.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Familiarity with business management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Understanding of organizational structures, workflows, and operational procedures.

Job Functions

Motor Abilities:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, grip, and perform fine motor tasks.

Physical Requirements:
Capability to safely lift up to 15 pounds.

Special Senses:
Adequate visual and auditory capabilities.

Work Conditions:
Typing and standing/sitting in a work environment exceeding 8 hours per day.

Travel:
Minimal travel may be required, approximately 0-5%.

Location:
Hybrid remote in Seattle, WA, with in-office presence required at least 3-4 days per week.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000-$130,000.

The final job level and compensation will be determined based on various factors, including relevant work experience, years of experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, and other business considerations.
