Job Summary:

As a Surgical Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures. Under the direct supervision of a surgeon, you will perform the role of first assistant, providing essential support to the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures, including attendance and reliability standards.
  • Monitor and take corrective action to prevent recurring absences.
  • Provide exposure through the proper use of retractors and maintain a dry field of operation.
  • Apply extremity tourniquets according to department standards of practice.
  • Pass instruments, sponges, sutures, and other supplies in a manner that avoids diverting the surgeon's attention from the operative field.
  • Assist in circulating duties under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Participate in ongoing department activities, such as system management and projects.
Requirements:
  • Minimum two (2) years of operating room experience as a Surgical Assist or Surgical Tech.
  • Graduation from an Accredited Surgical First Assist Program.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Certified Surgical Assistant Certificate from National Surgical Assistant Association or Surgical First Assistant Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Basic Life Support.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a hospital O.R. or ambulatory surgery setting as a Surgical Assistant.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare-related field of study.
