Job Summary:

The Library Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting with the educational environment by monitoring students and performing various clerical and instructional support tasks related to library operations. This position involves collaborating with teachers and students to enhance the learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain organized records of library data and correspondence.
  • Operate the circulation desk efficiently and assist in creating engaging library displays.
  • Ensure timely shelving of incoming books and proper organization of magazine back issues.
  • Conduct inventories of library materials and manage listings of missing or discarded items.
  • Supervise library activities and provide guidance to students during their visits.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as preparing instructional materials, filing records, and distributing educational resources.
  • Assist in locating media materials for both students and staff.
  • Provide administrative support, including answering calls, managing mail, and scheduling meetings.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints while interpreting school district policies.
  • Compile and analyze data for statistical reports and maintain confidential records.
  • Support remedial instruction and assist students requiring additional attention.
  • Monitor and assist groups of students during curriculum activities.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as distributing materials and escorting students.
  • Utilize office equipment, including computers and copiers, to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Implement classroom management strategies and assist students with special needs as required.

Education and Experience:
Candidates should possess an Associate Degree, 60 college credit hours, or have successfully passed the ParaPro Exam along with a high school diploma. A solid understanding of child development is essential, along with relevant training and experience.

Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as familiarity with office equipment and clerical functions. Proficiency in computer applications for word processing and records management is required. The ability to maintain effective relationships with colleagues and the public is essential, along with the capacity to remain calm in emergencies.

Working Conditions:
The role is primarily office-based with some exposure to outdoor environments while supervising students. Physical demands include lifting items up to 25 pounds and occasional local travel. The position requires the operation of standard office equipment.
