Job Title: Medical Oncology Professor

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Medical Oncology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position will be either tenure-track or clinical track based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

About the Position

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team in the Animal Cancer Care & Research Center (ACCRC), within the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute's biomedical research building in Roanoke. The successful candidate will join an oncology team that includes 2 other medical oncologists, a radiation oncologist, 2 surgical oncologists, 3 medical oncology residents, 1-2 oncology interns, 1 medical dosimetrist/radiation therapist, 1 radiation therapist/CT technician, and multiple oncology technicians and assistants.

Responsibilities
  • The primary job responsibility will be to contribute to the growth of the clinical service, which has emphasis on translational research.
  • Research responsibilities will vary based on the interest and qualification of the candidate but may include contribution to collaborative and translational research involving, but not limited to, veterinary clinicians, physicians, and medical and scientific researchers.
  • Additional service responsibilities include consultations with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg and outside referring veterinarians, participate in continuing education programs of the College and participate in faculty governance activities.
  • Teaching responsibilities will include participation in didactic instruction in oncology. Clinical instruction will be directed toward professional DVM students, interns, residents and graduate students from various disciplines, as well as laboratory instruction, where applicable.
Requirements
  • DVM or equivalent foreign degree by the date of hire degree
  • Completion of an approved American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - medical oncology residency (ACVIM-Oncology) program by the date of hire.
  • An ability and interest in fostering diversity in the curriculum and department
  • Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire
  • The success candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check
  • The applicant must be committed to excellence in patient management, client service, and clinical teaching record.
