Internship Program Overview:

The Internship Program at Starwood Capital spans 9 weeks, designed to attract a select group of highly driven summer interns aimed at identifying talent for our Full-time Analyst Program. Our organizational structure offers interns a significant level of responsibility and the unique chance to collaborate directly with senior management, joint venture partners, investment bankers, brokers, and commercial lenders across various real estate sectors. Summer interns will engage in specialized training sessions that enhance their skills and facilitate their transition into the professional environment of Starwood and the broader investment industry. A mentorship-focused approach allows interns to forge lasting relationships that contribute to their career development.

Business Unit Description:

The Capital Markets Team serves as Starwood Capital's internal debt team, responsible for sourcing financing for investments acquired by our private equity vehicles. This team operates as a borrower, securing financing from a range of domestic and international lenders, including CMBS lenders, mezzanine lenders, and other debt investors. The team collaborates closely with the Acquisitions and Asset Management teams to secure optimal financing that maximizes returns on various asset-level and corporate investments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize knowledge of financial markets and real estate lending to source, negotiate, and finalize optimal financing solutions.
  • Structure financing packages and develop capital stacks to attract cost-effective financing across all asset types, including multifamily, office, retail, hotel, industrial, and land.
  • Collaborate with Acquisitions & Asset Management colleagues to comprehend an asset's business strategy, align financing goals, and fulfill lender due diligence requirements.
  • Leverage existing banking and financing relationships while establishing new connections with lending institutions.
  • Review loan documentation to ensure consistency, flexibility, and protection.
  • Foster effective and collaborative relationships with senior management and professionals in Acquisitions/Asset Management.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a preference for candidates experienced in building financial models.
  • A demonstrated enthusiasm for real estate investment and a keen interest in capital markets.
