Job Title: Overnight Program Assistant

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Schedule: Full Time, Varies
Supervises: N/A

Rate of Pay: $21/hour

Function: The Overnight Program Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of residents and volunteers within our facilities, which include both congregate and non-congregate settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the dignity and respect of all program participants while implementing program rules consistently and fairly.
  • Promptly report any special or unusual concerns to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the building and its occupants, remaining vigilant and awake during shifts.
  • Enforce facility regulations and supervise nightly registration to provide accurate attendance counts.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all individuals encountered during shifts.
  • Address and mediate any issues that arise among the facility population.
  • Conduct security and fire watches throughout the premises.
  • Organize and maintain program materials appropriately.
  • Assist in the cleanup of the facility as directed.
  • Provide information and referrals to social service programs as necessary.
  • Perform record-keeping tasks as required.
  • Participate in all assigned staff meetings.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in delivering effective case management services.
  • Ability to adopt a positive, solution-oriented approach when working with program participants.
  • Experience in teaching and modeling case management skills, including motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience in supervising staff is preferred.
  • Desire to empower others by focusing on their strengths.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines while being part of a team.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting as needed. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and operate a telephone and computer.
  • Qualified individuals must be capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
