About the Role

Pivotal is seeking a Senior Composite Structures Analysis Engineer to lead all structural analysis efforts on all platforms. This position requires a strong understanding of composite material properties, manufacturing processes, and failure modes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural analysis and validation of composite components and assemblies for Pivotal's aircraft, utilizing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and other simulation software.
  • Conduct stress, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis on composite structures, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to provide guidance on composite material layup, fabrication techniques, and assembly processes.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with relevant aviation standards and certification requirements.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Develop and implement methodologies for composite material selection, characterization, and testing to ensure optimal performance and durability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in composite stress analysis and design within the aerospace, aviation, or automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (such as Simulia (3DX), Abaqus, Nastran, ANSYS) and other relevant simulation software.
  • Strong understanding of composite material properties, manufacturing processes, and failure modes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Bonus Requirements

  • Experience with eVTOL or other electric aircraft.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to composite structures in aerospace (e.g., FAA, EASA).
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with composite structure design.
