Cryogenic Mechanical Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cryogenic Mechanical Engineer to join our team at PsiQuantum. As a key member of our cryogenic engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing cryogenic systems for our quantum computer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop cryogenic equipment, including cryostats and cryogenic distribution systems.
  • Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics to develop cryogenic processes and systems.
  • Develop thermal fluid models to describe heat paths and create new cryogenic system designs.
  • Lead engineering activities from concept development to final onsite commissioning of cryogenic equipment.
  • Analyze field issues related to cryogenic design and provide solutions.
  • Document design inputs and outputs.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure successful execution of innovative designs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics.
  • 5+ years of experience applying engineering principles to solve complex thermal/fluid systems and/or cryogenics problems.
  • Direct experience with designing cryostats and cryogenic distribution systems.
  • Experience with advanced analysis tools, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Finite Difference, and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Ability to adapt changes and handle multiple assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with multiple material performance, design constraints, and manufacture constraints under cryogenics.
  • Experience working with cryogenic systems, cryostats, cryocoolers, and cryoplant.
  • Experience working with ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code BPVC and PED Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication methods, such as machining, welding, brazing, soldering, forming, etc.
  • Hands-on experience performing lab testing and data acquisition.
  • Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.

Compensation:

The expected base pay range for a fully qualified candidate is $145,000-$195,000 USD. Full-time roles are eligible for equity and benefits.
