Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Veterinary Technician to join our team at Pinellas County FL. As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in surgical procedures, evaluate incoming animals for signs of illness, and perform medical and behavioral evaluations for adoption, foster, or rescue placement.
  • Euthanize non-adoptable animals, administer vaccinations, and perform laboratory tests, including fecals and skin scrapes.
  • Record and control controlled substances, and assist with adoptions and customer interactions.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, outfit the operating room, and assist the veterinarian during procedures.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and injections, and enforce security protocols for drugs and barbiturates.
  • Perform pre-surgery physical examinations, evaluate animal health, and report changes to the veterinarian.
  • Examine, evaluate, and vaccinate impounded animals, and inspect the kennel population daily for injuries or illness.
  • Draw blood for clinic blood banks and perform assigned laboratory tasks.
Requirements
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Veterinary Medical Technician Certification.
  • Applicants with certification from another state or graduates of AVMA-accredited programs may be considered, but must acquire Florida certification within 6 months.
  • Must undergo pre-exposure rabies vaccinations and euthanasia certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire, with eligibility based on a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • Assignment to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Physical strength and agility to lift heavy animals, equipment, and supplies.
  • Exposure to personal risk during assignments, including contact with hostile or diseased animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous animal handling experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
