The Department of Writing Studies within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami is seeking applications for two tenure-eligible faculty roles. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in Professional and Technical Writing. We encourage applicants with experience in writing program administration to consider these opportunities.
Established as the twenty-first department in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Writing Studies is dedicated to providing a comprehensive writing education. The department not only manages the first-year writing program but also offers specialized courses in professional writing, leadership, science writing, legal writing, and community engagement. Additionally, we have successfully introduced an innovative Minor in Professional Writing and oversee the University's Writing Center, which enhances writing across the curriculum.
Successful candidates will have the chance to contribute to the College of Arts and Sciences' new co-major in Innovation and Society, which integrates design thinking and data science within a liberal arts context. This co-major emphasizes experiential learning and inclusive design practices aimed at addressing significant global challenges.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric, Technical and Professional Communication, Composition and Rhetoric, or a closely related field, by the start date.
- A strong research agenda in writing and rhetoric studies.
- Demonstrated excellence in equitable and inclusive teaching at the college level, particularly with diverse student populations.
- A publication record appropriate for the rank sought.
