Job Summary:

The Referral Clerk I at Teche Action Clinic plays a vital role in ensuring seamless patient referrals to specialists, healthcare agencies, and outpatient facilities. This position requires close collaboration with provider staff, clinical support staff, patients, and insurance carriers to guarantee timely processing of clinical referrals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule patient referrals to specialist providers and healthcare agencies according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tracking and documentation of referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, ensuring clear understanding of the referral process and necessary information.
  • Provide logistical support and problem-solving assistance to patients related to the healthcare system.
  • Remind patients of scheduled appointments and follow up with specialists regarding information delays.
  • Participate in chart audits to monitor referral tracking and ensure compliance with procedures.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, individuals must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in an outpatient clinic setting and familiarity with medical terminology are preferred. Strong communication, math, and reasoning skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Eligibility Requirements:

All employees must meet eligibility standards to be considered for the position. Internal applicants need at least one year with no disciplinary actions on file or approval from a supervisor if not with the organization for a year.
