Senior Analytical Laboratory Specialist

The Senior Analytical Laboratory Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing all laboratory analytical processes, which encompass chemical, mechanical, thermo-mechanical, and microscopic evaluations and documentation. This position is primarily tasked with the formulation of analytical testing methodologies, as well as the operation and management of sophisticated analytical equipment, including ICP-MS, FE-SEM, LPC, and Confocal microscopy. The role also involves the development and interpretation of test outcomes in relation to established standards, qualifications, and failure analysis protocols for analytical equipment and methods.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting chemical ICP-MS acid extraction analyses.
- Performing liquid particle extraction and assessments.
- Executing metallurgical and materials evaluations.
- Supervising chemical analyses and interpreting analytical findings.
- Carrying out mechanical and thermo-mechanical assessments.
- Utilizing SEM and EDS methodologies for analysis.
- Coordinating external analytical testing techniques such as GDMS, XRD, EBSD, FTIR, GCMS, and TGA.
- Developing and refining analytical testing methodologies.
- Leading failure analysis initiatives.
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive laboratory records of analyses and interpreting test data using SPC methodologies.
- Compiling and presenting analytical data to auditors.
- Generating Laboratory Certification of Compliance.
- Executing additional related tasks as assigned.
- Adhering to applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company policies and accepted safety practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry.
- Over 8 years of analytical experience.
- Expertise in ThermoElectro/ThermoFisher ICP-MS is essential.
- Familiarity with FE-SEM techniques.
- Knowledge of liquid particle count analysis and instrumentation.
- Strong preference for candidates with semiconductor manufacturing/process knowledge.
- Comprehensive understanding of the operation of complex laboratory equipment, including SEM, EDX, ICP-MS, LPC, and optical/digital photo microscopy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Frequently required to handle delicate components.
- Occasionally required to lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are necessary.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Regular exposure to moving equipment, mechanical parts, ovens, and potential burn risks.
- Work primarily in a standard office setting with frequent visits to the manufacturing floor.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory to mitigate exposure to hazardous materials commonly found in a manufacturing environment.
- Low noise levels in the office environment, with high noise levels near operating machinery.
- Potential physical hazards when working near moving equipment and mechanical components.
- Possible exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and mist.
