The Senior Analytical Laboratory Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing all laboratory analytical processes, which encompass chemical, mechanical, thermo-mechanical, and microscopic evaluations and reporting. This position is primarily focused on the formulation of analytical testing protocols, as well as the operation and management of sophisticated analytical instruments, including ICP-MS, FE-SEM, LPC, and Confocal microscopy. The role involves the development and interpretation of test outcomes in relation to established standards, qualifications, and failure analysis of analytical equipment and methodologies, along with the maintenance of such equipment and comprehensive reporting of results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct chemical analyses using ICP-MS acid extraction techniques.
  • Perform liquid particle extraction and analysis.
  • Execute metallurgical and materials evaluations.
  • Supervise chemical analysis and provide interpretation of analytical findings.
  • Carry out mechanical and thermo-mechanical assessments.
  • Utilize SEM and EDS methods for detailed analysis.
  • Coordinate additional external analytical testing methods such as GDMS, XRD, EBSD, FTIR, GCMS, and TGA.
  • Develop and refine analytical testing methodologies.
  • Lead investigations into failure analysis.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records of analyses and interpret test data using Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies.
  • Compile and present analytical data to auditors.
  • Generate Laboratory Certification of Compliance.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.
  • Adhere to relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, company policies, and established safe work practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 8 years of analytical experience.
  • Proficiency with ThermoElectro/ThermoFisher ICP-MS is essential.
  • Familiarity with FE-SEM techniques.
  • Knowledge of liquid particle count analysis and associated instrumentation.
  • Strong preference for candidates with semiconductor manufacturing/process knowledge.
  • In-depth understanding of the operation of complex laboratory equipment, including SEM, EDX, ICP-MS, LPC, and optical/digital photo microscopy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Frequent use of hands for handling delicate components.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regular exposure to moving equipment, mechanical parts, ovens, and potential burn hazards.
  • Work primarily in a standard office environment with frequent visits to the manufacturing floor.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory to mitigate exposure to hazardous materials commonly found in manufacturing settings.
  • Low noise levels in office settings, with higher noise levels near operating machinery.
  • Physical hazards present when working near moving equipment and mechanical components.
  • Potential exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and mist.
