Department: Special Chemistry

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 8 am-4:30 am

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the suitability of specimens for analysis based on established guidelines.
  • Execute routine and intricate technical procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversee, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Exhibit the capability to make informed technical decisions regarding testing and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare, evaluate, and test new reagents or controls.
  • Deliver precise and timely test results to ensure quality patient care.
  • Conduct and document preventive maintenance and quality control activities.
  • Identify and restock testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Process specimens when required.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible for the validation of new testing procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related scientific field (or 24 credits in Chemistry/Biology constituting a biological science major) as mandated by CLIA.
  • A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for the Specialist level.
  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Proficient in computer usage; familiarity with laboratory information systems is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail coupled with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a standardized color vision screening.
  • Willingness to work overtime or alternate shifts as necessary based on business needs.
