Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Informatics Specialist to join our team at UT Health San Antonio. As an Associate Director of Clinical Research Informatics, you will play a key role in supporting clinical investigators and research teams through the design, development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of device-based data collection in clinical studies.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement device-based data acquisition and integration solutions for clinical studies
  • Collaborate with clinical investigators and research teams to identify data collection needs and develop effective solutions
  • Manage software development, usability testing, implementation, and evaluation of health applications for clinical studies
  • Work with the Epic team to integrate device-based data with electronic health records
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest Health Level Seven (HL7) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards and participate in their development
  • Advise investigators, study teams, and research infrastructure teams on research data standards selection and implementation
  • Support and potentially lead NIH grants, contracts, and other informatics projects involving complex device, data integration, or standards implementation
  • Manage the implementation of real-time HL7 FHIR-based data acquisition for the institutional data warehouse
  • Lead the Clinical Research Informatics Specialist group, including hiring, training, and overseeing the work of Clinical Research Informatics Specialists and the Research Data Navigator role
Requirements
  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as informatics, computer science, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical research informatics, with a focus on device-based data acquisition and integration
  • Strong understanding of HL7 FHIR standards and experience with their implementation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with clinical investigators, research teams, and technical staff
  • Experience with software development, usability testing, and implementation of health applications for clinical studies
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in clinical research informatics and health information technology
