Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Court Reporter to join our team at Dallas County. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate and timely transcription services for court proceedings, depositions, and other legal events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend all sessions of the court as required and take full shorthand notes of oral testimony offered before the court.
  • Read portions of transcript during trial as directed and request speakers to clarify inaudible statements.
  • Preserve notes for future reference, maintain appropriate files, and furnish a transcript of the reported evidence or other proceedings in whole or in part as requested.
  • Conduct depositions of witnesses, receive, execute, and return commissions, and make a certificate of the proceedings as directed.
  • Report the oral testimony given in any contested probate matter as directed and record proceedings of other hearings and formal and informal meetings as required.
  • Operate general office and specialized stenographic equipment, and provide light typing and clerical support as needed.
  • Gather, index, bind, and file court exhibits introduced during court proceedings, and order and maintain adequate office supplies.
  • Receive correspondence and distribute to the appropriate personnel, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school/GED program and from an accredited court reporting school.
  • Certified court reporter by the Texas State Supreme Court.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable Texas Codes and the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure.
  • Skilled in the use of standard software applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public.
Working Conditions

The Court Reporter will work in a standard office environment with occasional travel to courtrooms and other locations as required.
