Job Title: Medical Records Clerk

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to join our Health Information Management team at Jamaica Hospital. As a Medical Records Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient medical records.

Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process daily mail, ensuring that medical records are accurate and complete
  • Advising and assisting patients with information on how to obtain medical records
  • Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing records electronically
  • Assisting physicians in the chart completion process
  • Safeguarding patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards
  • Maintaining electronic and verbal communication with Medisys sites and Risk Management
  • Performing purging on paper files and loose material
  • Identifying duplicate patient registration and/or duplicate medical record numbers/corrections
  • Sorting, checking, and performing file maintenance for audit misfiles and indexing of all incoming loose reports/documents/files scanned into the medical record
Requirements:
  • Minimum Associate Degree
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Customer Service Skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate work
  • Understands and uses search engines and websites - Tech Savvy
  • Strong Time Management Skills
  • Ability to Multitask
  • Experience using different computers programs simultaneously
  • Previous hospital/health care office experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with medical terminology helpful
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or coordinate interpreter service when necessary
