Position Overview
The Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for the diagnostics, repair, and upkeep of intricate electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical biomedical apparatus. This includes but is not limited to ventilators, anesthesia devices, ultrasound machines, surgical lasers, infusion pumps, patient monitoring systems, and other complex instrumentation. The role also encompasses the maintenance of non-direct patient care equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough evaluations of new, proposed, and existing biomedical equipment, providing recommendations for enhancements.
- Coordinate with vendors for service repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Perform acceptance testing on newly acquired biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturers' safety and operational standards.
- Manage purchase requisitions for necessary parts and supplies.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental projects.
- Take a leadership role in mentoring Biomedical Equipment Technicians at lower levels.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of college-level coursework or equivalent training in electronics.
- A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- A minimum of three to five years of advanced experience in medical equipment repair and maintenance.
- Formal education in electronics.
- Comprehensive understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Experience in a healthcare or medical center setting.
- Practical training within a medical facility.
- Demonstrated expert judgment in critical decision-making scenarios affecting patient safety.
- Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards applicable to hospitals and clinics.
- Proficiency in common software applications, including Microsoft Office and email programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate's degree in electronics.
- Certifications from equipment manufacturers.
- AAMI CBET Certification.
- Network-related certifications.
- Experience in an academic healthcare institution.
Special Conditions
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule covering nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
- Willingness to travel for educational opportunities.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and locations based on operational needs.
- Employment is contingent upon a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination.
- Technicians must reside within a reasonable distance to respond to on-site emergencies promptly.
Compensation
The annual full pay range for this position is $98,491 - $122,482, with an hourly equivalent of $58.66. Compensation factors include experience, skills, education, certifications, and organizational needs.
