Position Overview

Job Title: Foster Care Family Worker

Department: Children's Services

Availability: Immediate

Salary/Grade: $45,500 annually; Exempt, Grade 11

Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The mission of The Salvation Army Children's Services is "Doing the Most Good by Nurturing Children, Strengthening Families, and Engaging Communities." This is achieved through safeguarding and nurturing children, enhancing caregiver capabilities through trauma-informed education, and collaborating with local organizations dedicated to foster care and adoption.

As a Foster Care Family Worker, your primary responsibility will be to deliver case management services for foster children who have experienced significant challenges. You will foster an environment conducive to healing and optimal care for both the children and their resource families. This role also entails providing essential support and resources to foster families while ensuring the child's health and safety.

Additionally, you will engage with birth families to supervise visits and facilitate plans for family reunification. You will have the opportunity to gain insights into Trust-Based Relational Intervention principles and collaborate with the agency's Growing Relationships, Outcomes, and Well-being (GROW) initiative to create innovative educational programs that promote healing for families and children.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work or a related field, with a minimum of three years of experience in a human services environment serving children and/or families, or a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of the impacts of separation, loss, neglect, and trauma on children.
  • Experience in foster care and permanency services, providing support to children and families.
  • Certification or extensive training in trauma-informed care.
  • A valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a safe driving record are required.
  • Flexibility in work hours is essential, including on-call duties.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, advocacy, and organizational skills, along with proficiency in computer usage and teamwork.
  • Completion of Child Protection Clearances as mandated by PA Act 153, including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
