As a Machinist with the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of our equipment. Your expertise will be essential in repairing and maintaining complex machinery, from engine lathes to power cutoff saws. With your skills, you will be able to fabricate replacements for broken parts, modify existing ones, and even create new components from scratch. Your work will involve operating a variety of machine shop equipment, including drill presses, grinders, and welding gear. You will also be responsible for measuring work with precision tools, such as calipers and micrometers, and studying blueprints to ensure accuracy. Your attention to detail and ability to work methodically will be crucial in delivering high-quality results. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience, which can be valuable in a civilian career with factories and repair shops in industries such as electrical products, automotive, and heavy machinery. Through your training, you will learn the skills and techniques necessary to excel in this field, including the use of different metals, safety procedures, and problem-solving. You will also have the chance to earn a regular paycheck while learning these valuable skills. Job training for a Machinist consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in machine operation. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.
