As a Machinist with the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of our equipment. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, drill presses, and grinders
  • Measure and inspect workpieces using precision tools, such as calipers and micrometers
  • Study blueprints and written plans to understand the specifications of the parts to be made
  • Cut and shape metal stock using various tools and techniques
  • Utilize welding equipment, including oxyacetylene and electric arc welders

Training and Qualifications

Job training for a Machinist consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn basic Soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including hands-on practice in machine operation. You will learn the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this role, including safety procedures, metalworking, and mechanical drawing.
