As a Machinist with the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the precision and reliability of our equipment. Your expertise will be in high demand as you work with a variety of machine shop tools and equipment to repair and modify parts, fabricate replacements, and conduct quality control checks.

Your duties will include operating lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other machinery, as well as measuring work with precision instruments and studying blueprints to ensure accuracy. You will also be responsible for cutting metal stock, using drill presses, and shaping and smoothing parts to exact specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a range of machine shop equipment, including engine lathes, utility grinders, and power cutoff saws

• Strong understanding of metalworking and mechanical principles

• Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Through your training and experience, you will develop the skills and expertise to excel in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive.

Training and Development

As a Machinist with the Army National Guard, you will receive comprehensive training in machine operation, precision measurement, and quality control. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in a variety of areas, including metalworking, mechanical drawing, and problem-solving.

In addition to your on-the-job training, you will have access to tuition assistance and other educational benefits to help you advance your career.

Job training for a Machinist consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in machine operation. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.
