Job Overview

Position Summary

The role involves guiding preschool-aged children through activities aimed at fostering their social, physical, and cognitive development essential for their transition to primary education. This position may require state certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer a diverse range of materials and resources for children to explore and engage with during both educational and imaginative play.
  • Attend to the fundamental needs of children, including feeding, dressing, and hygiene.
  • Instruct children in basic concepts such as colors, shapes, numbers, letters, personal hygiene, and social interactions.
  • Establish and uphold behavioral guidelines and procedures to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Read stories to the entire class or to smaller groups to enhance literacy skills.
  • Organize and lead activities that support physical, mental, and social growth, including games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and excursions.
  • Monitor and assess children's performance, behavior, social development, and overall health.
  • Identify children who may exhibit emotional, developmental, or health-related challenges and communicate these observations with supervisors and parents.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, priorities, and ways to support their learning and development.
  • Adhere to all administrative policies and regulations regarding student conduct.
  • Prepare classrooms and materials for educational activities.
  • Promote healthy eating habits and personal hygiene among students.
  • Welcome children as they arrive, assisting them in settling into the school environment and selecting activities that interest them.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate these goals effectively to the children.
  • Demonstrate activities to enhance learning.
  • Arrange indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play and ensure safety.
  • Maintain accurate student records in compliance with legal and administrative requirements.
  • Prepare reports on student progress and activities as mandated by administration.
  • Plan and conduct a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and hands-on activities that encourage exploration and inquiry.
  • Organize and display student work in a manner that is age-appropriate and visually engaging.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and schedule lessons that align with approved curricula.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Work with other educators and administrators to develop, assess, and refine preschool programs.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to committees as necessary.
  • Engage with other professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress.
  • Plan and oversee experiential learning activities, including projects and field trips, guiding students in their learning experiences.
  • Manage classroom supplies and equipment, ensuring they are organized and accessible.
  • Provide support and resources for students with disabilities, including assistive devices and technology.
  • Perform administrative duties such as monitoring hallways and cafeteria areas.
  • Administer assessments to evaluate children's developmental levels and needs.
  • Design and implement remedial programs for students requiring additional support.
