Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Emergency Services Technician to provide high-quality patient care in our Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist nursing staff in providing basic nursing care to patients with non-acute, acute, and rapidly changing physical needs.
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures under the supervision of nursing/medical staff, including insertion of intravenous lines, urinary catheters, and nasogastric tubes.
  • Conduct electrocardiograph (EKG) recordings and enter patient information into the EKG machine.
  • Apply splints and immobilization devices to patients with minor injuries.
  • Perform eye irrigations and visual acuity testing, and report results to the proper authority.
  • Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's), such as feeding, dressing, and ambulating.
  • Take vital signs and provide basic nursing support, including responding to call lights and transporting patients.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a department in-service training program within the first six weeks of employment.
  • 1 to 3 years of clinical hospital or EMS experience, with hospital experience preferred.
  • EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 60 days.
